About Us

The Heritage Society is a non-profit organization which aims to promote interest in and knowledge of Indonesia's cultural heritage. With a large multinational membership, the Heritage Society seeks to illuminate the rich artistic, historical and cultural traditions of Indonesia for the international community of Jakarta.





Museum Activities

Many Heritage Society members are involved in projects supporting the Museum Nasional. Heritage Society sections and services related to the museum include:

• Museum tours in English, Japanese, French, and German

• Language classes for museum staff

• Translation of Museum documents

• Project groups which include:

Prehistory
Ethnography (ethnic groups)
Stone Sculpture
Textiles
Ceramics

COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES

Evening Lectures
A series of weekly lectures highlighting Indonesian culture and art is presented to the public twice a year.

Explorers
Small groups get together weekly to discover Jakarta through tours and adventures.

School Programmes
Presentations in both English and Japanese are organized in the international schools.

Study Groups
Groups meet on selected topics to learn about the history, art, and culture of this country.

Study Tours
These small group tours with a cultural focus offer members the opportunity to travel to some of the most fascinating parts of Indonesia. Each participant researches a chosen aspect of the place to be visited.

Library
Provides members with access to an outstanding collection of works on varied aspects of Indonesian life and culture.

Membership and Community Relations
Coordinates Heritage Society membership functions and represents the organization to the community at large.

Newsletter
A monthly newsletter keeps members informed of Heritage Society activities.

Website
The Heritage Society website provides information on the numerous activities of the society and forthcoming events.
