The Indonesian Heritage Society's varied activities provide a stepping stone to discovering the culture, life, history and art of this vast archipelago for those new to Indonesia as well as those who have lived in Jakarta all their lives. Please see the links below to each of the different areas in which the Heritage Society provides different types of activities that provide participants with opportunities to discover, explore, learn and outreach in Jakarta and throughout Indonesia. ExplorersExplore Jakarta by joining one of our Explorer Groups, and regularly visit places of interest, such as markets, museums, and historical and cultural sites. For more information, please click Explorers. Study GroupsRead and share your new-found knowledge about Indonesia as a member of a Study Group. Topics include textiles, literature, ceramics, ethnic groups, history and contemporary art. For more information, please click Study Groups. Evening LecturesAttend one of our centrally located Evening Lectures, which are open to the public in two six-lecture series a year. For location, time and current schedule, please click Evening Lectures. RumahkuLike the name suggests, Rumahku is a presentation generally held in a "friend's" home. These relaxed presentations are usually held during the day with topics covering a broad range. Past presentations include: textiles, ceramics, anthropology, education, green issues, etc. As the venues are more informal than evening lectures, events can be organized quickly, and we can 'nab' speakers that are visiting Jakarta for a short time. Presentations usually last approximately one hour followed by refreshments. For information, please send an e-mail to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . School ProgramsThe objective of the School Program Section is to foster foreign students' appreciation of Indonesia's cultural and geographical diversity. Heritage Society participants provide guided discussions and slide presentations to students at the international schools of Jakarta. For more information, please click School Programs. French-speaking SectionThe French-speaking section of the Indonesian Heritage Society models its activities after those offered by the English-speaking section while adapting them to the school calendar of the French International School. There are two “Decouvertes” offering cultural visits which are modeled after the Explorers, monthly lectures in French on Indonesian culture, tours of the Museum Nasional and travel tours. For more information in both French and English, please click French Speaking Section. Japanese-speaking SectionThe Japanese-speaking section was established in 2006 by unifying two groups, Japanese School Programs and Japanese Museum Tour Guides. There are on-going activities and lectures that are provided in the Japanese language. For more information in both Japanese and English, please click Japanese Speaking Section.
