Museum Projects 

Museum Projects offers the chance for volunteers to learn about the heritage of Indonesia by actively supporting the cultural institutions of Indonesia. Our activities are many and varied but they all fall under the direction of the Museum Curators and staff. At the moment we have projects in three Museums in Jakarta and there are plenty of opportunities open if you would like to join in.

Museum Tours

Explore Indonesia without leaving Jakarta! Experience the Indonesian archipelago in the company of a tour guide; see the treasures of the islands, and learn about the diverse cultures.

The Indonesian Heritage Society Tour guides give regular free highlight tours at the National Museum (Gedung Gajah) in English, French, Japanese, and Korean. Tours in a wide variety of other languages are available on request.

Museum Hours 

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday - 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. 
Friday - 8:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. 
Saturday, Sunday - 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. 
Monday - closed

Tours in English  

Every Tuesday and Thursday at 10:30 a.m. and every second Sunday and last Saturday of the month.

Tours in French

Every third Wednesday of the month at 9:30 a.m. No tours in July and August.  

Tours in Japanese

Every Tuesday and first Sunday of the month at 10:30 a.m.

Tours in Korean

First Tuesday and third Saturday of the month at 9:30 a.m.

Additional days and times or individual tours can also be arranged for embassies, companies, schools and guests. Language Classes

Heritage Society teachers are currently teaching three different languages at the Museum Nasional for museum staff and any registered Friends of the Heritage Society.  For information and schedule, please click Language Class Schedule
